Jimmy Rose, US Marine, “Coal Keeps The Lights On” America’s Got Talent

The stage of America’s Got Talent has seen its fair share of glitz and glamour, but every so often, a performer walks out who reminds us exactly what the heart of the country looks like.

Enter Jimmy Rose. Wearing a simple shirt and carrying an acoustic guitar, Jimmy stood before the judges with a humble demeanor that masked a lifetime of grit and service. “My name is Jimmy Rose,” he replied, his voice carrying the unmistakable drawl of Pineville, Kentucky.

Jimmy is a four-year United States Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq. Beyond his military service, he worked underground in the coal mines. He chose to sing an original song titled “Coal Keeps The Lights On” as a way of supporting his hometown.

As the first notes filled the room, the atmosphere shifted. His voice was raw, powerful, and steeped in a natural country soul. “I’ll tell you what I like about you,” Howard Stern said after the standing ovation. “You have a great country voice, sound, and heart.”

With a unanimous “YES” from the panel, Jimmy proved that authenticity is the ultimate talent. His journey from the coal mines to the big stage is just beginning.
