The 2019 Country Music Association Awards began with a bang when three veterans took the stage to sing together. Voice Coach Reba McEntire, Sunday Night Football performer Carrie Underwood, and country music legend Dolly Parton opened the evening with a rendition of “Those Memories Of You.” After then, additional “women of country” joined them for a medley of songs that included Tanya Tucke, Jennifer Nettles, and Martina McBride.

In their introduction, the three of them introduced themselves and the Performer of the Year nominees, including Keith Urban, who looked adorable seated with his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, before they began singing. McEntire and Parton are making jokes about replacing Underwood, who presented the awards with Brad Paisley every year from 2008 to 2018.In 1987, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris created history by recording and releasing a joint album called Trio, which was named after their moniker as the “Queenston Trio.”

That album featured the song “Those Memories Of You,” which was written by Alan O’Bryant and originally sung by Bill Monroe, according to American Songwriter. The song has since been covered by various musicians and is a cover in and of itself. It’s a simple song about having memories of a former sweetheart haunt you.
