Kate Cassidy talked about the heartbreaking moment she found out about the death of her boyfriend, Liam Payne, a former member of One Direction.
Cassidy, 25, disclosed in a tearful interview that Payne, who was allegedly getting ready to pop the question, had sadly died on October 16 of last year.
The singer died after falling from a third-floor balcony while the couple was staying at the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where they had been dating for two years.
A Sad Conclusion to a Vacation
In early October, Cassidy and Payne had gone to Argentina together to see a show for his old bandmate, Niall Horan. A week later, Cassidy went back to their Florida home, but Payne chose to stay longer. The terrible accident happened during this period.
During a broadcast on Argentina’s Todo Noticias TV channel, Alberto Crescenti, Director of the country’s Emergency Medical Services, verified the incident’s specifics.
“At 17:04, we received a notification via the 911 integrated public safety system that someone was in a hotel’s internal courtyard,” Crescenti said. “A SAME team showed up at 17:11 and confirmed this man’s death. We later learned that he was a vocalist for a band.
“Unfortunately, his injuries from the fall were incompatible with life,” he continued. No chance of resuscitation existed.
The Instant Cassidy Learned
Cassidy, who is now back in New Jersey after leaving the couple’s Florida home, talked of the terrifying moment she learned of Payne’s passing.
In a recent interview with The Sun, she stated, “I feel fortunate that I didn’t find out over social media because I just couldn’t even imagine that.” “One of Liam’s friends called me while I was scrolling through TikTok at home with our dog.”
At first, she found it difficult to comprehend the news.

“That instant… It’s blacked out in my mind; it’s blank,” Cassidy recounted. “At first, I didn’t believe it. I assumed it was just a rumor or a fabrication manufactured by someone to get views. And then I felt uneasy all of a sudden. “Why would someone make this up?” I asked myself. Is this accurate?
She tried to get in touch with Payne as reality hit in.
I attempted to contact him. I called almost everyone. After that, I communicated with his family, and my mother took the first flight to join me, she said. I recall pacing the house, and the couple’s dog, Nala, started leaping up at me as if I was trying to play. That night, I didn’t get any sleep at all.
A Tribute to Liam Payne
Cassidy talked on how strange Payne’s death still feels, acknowledging that she occasionally uses the present tense when discussing him because “it doesn’t feel fully real.” His thoughts are on her mind “every second of every day.”
She referred to Payne as her “soulmate” and commended his modest and grounded demeanor in spite of his international renown.
She remarked, “He was among the most ordinary people you could ever hope to meet.”
We are extending the family of Kate Cassidy and Liam Payne our warmest condolences during this trying time.
