After an 11-year hiatus, Cameron Diaz has made a dramatic Hollywood comeback.
The queen has returned. By costarring with Jamie Foxx as a former CIA agent in Netflix’s Back in Action, the actor has reversed her retirement.
Doesn’t that movie title sound like a perfect fit?
With her well-known role in The Mask in 1994, Diaz got her big break. Later on, she starred in movies including Knight and Day, Charlie’s Angels, The Other Woman, Bad Teacher, and The Holiday.
She has made a name for herself as a rom-com favorite, even though there are some other genres represented. The 52-year-old, however, made a career choice that might not be to everyone’s taste just days after making a big comeback.
Reviewers weren’t impressed by Back in Action, as seen by its 25 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Diaz seems committed to a different strategy.
“I’ve left my ‘rom-com’ era,” she said when she appeared on Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby.
Rather, the actress has determined that she is currently in her “rom-com” period.
In an interview with Empire, she said something similar: “No more rom-coms, only mom-coms.”
Although Diaz did not explain her meaning, we can assume that she would rather portray a mother than the romantic protagonist in comic movies these days.
That is, if she appears in any further movies, as she has stated that she intends to return permanently. “How I view it is unclear to me. It is hard to say.
“It will turn into this if I say it. I still have the option to say no to any upcoming film projects, but I also have the option to say yes if I so desire.
“I’m not making any definitions. I’m just willing to do whatever is best for my family and me at the moment.
In any case, she will play Princess Fiona again in Shrek 5, which is now slated for release in December 2026.
Fans are excited to see Diaz return to the screen, despite Back in Action receiving harsh criticism from critics.
“Diaz’s return is welcome, but she needs a better project,” stated Newsday.
“Diaz retains her charm in these roles, and her chemistry with Foxx is strong,” agreed We Live in Entertainment. It doesn’t add up to anything, so I’m thinking if there’s something better to see these two back in action.
