The voice, stage presence, and sheer star power of “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” are unmatched by anyone, as all ardent Elvis Presley fans would concur.
Nevertheless, the late, great Presley would have been pleased to see all of the musicians that just joined together to pay tribute to him by performing his songs.Blake Shelton hosted NBC’s “Elvis All-Star Tribute” just over a month after Presley would have turned 84.
Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, and even the presenter himself performed a fantastic rendition of one of Presley’s greatest singles as part of the spectacular live event.
Shelton was aware that he couldn’t surpass Presley, but when he performed “Suspicious Minds,” he undoubtedly channeled The King. Shelton played on a stage that was modeled after the one that Presley stood on years ago, sporting a black leather jacket that was reminiscent of the one he wore in his “’68 Comeback Special.”
Shelton sung the lyrics with backing vocals on either side, adding more of his signature country twang to the song:
“Why can’t you see
What you’re doing to me
When you don’t believe a word I say?”
Even if his audience wasn’t as enthralled as Presley’s, Shelton’s rendition of the song was obviously well-liked by them. YouTube users congratulated Shelton, telling him that he done a fantastic job paying tribute to Presley.
Blake never would have attempted to imitate Elvis. One user remarked, “He liked him as the awesome artist he was.” “Really a great version, great job Blake,” said another.
