As a kind act of kindness, a nurse at Northside Hospital Gwinnett went above and beyond to help a dying patient find a new home for her dog. The nurse, Kim Still, had become close with the old woman, who had cancer and no family or children to take care of her Chihuahua, Jax.
As the patient’s health got worse, what would happen to Jax was her main worry. Since they didn’t have any family to take Jax, their family told Kim to take him to a shelter. Kim knew, though, that rescues often have trouble finding homes for dogs, so some of them have to be put down.
Hearing how much the patient loved Jax made Kim want to adopt him. She couldn’t stand the thought of killing Jax. The kind act of Kim made the patient feel better, and she died peacefully, knowing that Jax was in great hands.
Kim’s wonderful actions show how deeply nurses often connect with their patients. “Some people become close to you in ways you didn’t expect,” she said. This was a truly amazing event.
Jax and Kim quickly got used to living together in their new home, and Jax showed Kim a lot of love and care. Kim thought he was “the cutest and nicest dog.” “I’ll always have to work to get rid of him,” she said.
Kim won the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for her selfless work. Kim is a nurse who changes her patients’ and their pets’ lives in a way that lasts. Her story shows what kind of caring and dedicated nurses can be.
There doesn’t seem to be much kindness in the world most of the time. The kind thing Kim did for others is a powerful lesson that one person can make a big difference. Love and kindness can change things for the better, as Jax’s happy finish shows.
