Childhood Recollections

Jane, his mother, advocated for the conservation of wildlife. Additionally, Josh Brolin’s mother Jane used to play a risky joke on him and his brother Jess when they were kids. When she told the bobcats, coyotes, cougars, and other wild animals in the area to “sic ’em,” the animals would chase after the lads.

“You knew you’d be cleaning up fresh bloody marks somewhere on your body for the rest of the day if you didn’t get on the other side of that shut door within a couple of seconds,” Brolin wrote.

Brolin adds he still “loath to say” that these stories were horrific, despite their terrifying sound. In the interview, he stated that although his mother was difficult to be around, he still wanted her around all the time.

In 1995, at the age of 55, Brolin’s mother died in an automobile accident. When Brolin’s addiction was at its worst, he used to think that 55 was a respectable age to pass away. He thought that a person would have led a long and fulfilling life by then.

Now, Josh Brolin

Brolin is 56 years old now, one year older than his mother was when she passed away. He comes to the realization that 55 is not a long life and that he was mistaken. Even though it took him a long time to overcome his addiction, he eventually succeeded. Actor James Brolin, who is married to the renowned Barbara Streisand, is Brolin’s father. Brolin has occasionally discussed Streisand’s role as his stepmother.

He has frequently discussed his “tough love” for his stepmother, Barbra Streisand. “Well into our happily-ever-after, I walked into their house one day and said, ‘I’ll have a glass of wine,'” he recalled in an interview. I repeated myself after she cocked her head and glanced at me. “Please give me a glass of red wine.”

“She took a slow breath and then hit me with it: ‘Aren’t you an alcoholic?'” he continued. The statement was quite audacious. Before speaking to me, she always used a bulls*** cleanser to wipe her tongue.
He continued the conversation by saying: “I like red wine, but I’m an alcoholic.” “You shouldn’t drink,” she remarked.

He has pleasant memories of those tough love experiences. Regarding his life at 56, he says he appreciates the changes that come with getting older and sober.

“I enjoy growing older. “It’s like a great excuse to finally say, ‘OK, just relax, you don’t have to spin all the time,'” the actor remarked.

Addiction Battle

In his memoir, he discusses how his addiction started. He talks about trying marijuana at the age of nine and dropping acid at the age of thirteen in the book. He also remembers being drunk when he arrived to his grandmother’s bedside, which served as the last straw for him.

After waking up, hungover from the streets, he had arrived at his grandmother’s bedside, who was 99 years old and on her deathbed. He realized at that time that he still had a lot of years left to live.

Brolin revealed, “I knew that was going to be the last time I drank.” This incident happened in 2013, and Brolin has been sober for more than ten years.

“I enjoy my sobriety. I enjoy myself more,” he said. “There is nothing I go through that I am positive would not be made worse by alcohol.”
