In relation to the event where a Texas singer was shot and injured, police and witnesses have detained a suspect.
Witnesses said that following a performance with The Black Academy of Arts and Letters in downtown Dallas, Jada Thomas was shot by an audience member as she was getting autographs. Thomas was signing autographs when the incident happened, according to the WFAA, which cited authorities.
According to a Dallas Police Department statement PEOPLE shared on Monday, November 4, officers found the 26-year-old shooting victim when they arrived at the site at approximately 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 2.
Thomas was taken to a local hospital, where his status is stable, according to the police statement. Authorities arrested and accused Micah Williams, 26, with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, according to the statement.
According to an arrest complaint acquired by WFAA, Williams was arrested after allegedly being spotted by a witness in a hotel lobby. The complaint claims that Williams admitted to shooting Thomas and that a witness described him as “really robotic and off.”
TBAAL founder and director Curtis King told NBC 5 that “it was a packed house; people were in line getting autographs and we heard this shot.” “That was astounding.”Everything seemed to be going slowly.
King wrote on Facebook on Sunday, November 3, that after a “wonderful performance,” Thomas was “going to be okay” after the shooting.
Jada is “courageously strong,” King tweeted, adding, “Pray for all of us who have been blessed by her music and ministry and will continue to do so.”
The police statement stated that the investigation was still ongoing and that they had seized a handgun. Whether there is a relationship between the two is unknown.
Williams is being held at Dallas County Jail on $200,000 bail, per online jail records. Whether she has entered a plea or engaged legal representation is unknown.
