Man put his head in a cage and only gave the key to his wife. The reason may surprise you…

Are you trying to quit smoking? Have you ever thought about putting your head in a cage like this Turkish man? No, neither do I. Placing your head inside a cage seems like an extreme unlike any other, regardless of whether you’ve battled heroically for years to stop smoking or you’ve considered it but are positive you won’t ever smoke again. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that tobacco use kills more than eight million people annually. Seven million of these deaths are caused by tobacco use, while 1.2 million are caused by secondhand smoke exposure for nonsmokers. Ibrahim Yucel made an extreme decision that most individuals would never think to take because he was desperate. He locked his skull in a round cage and gave the only key to his wife.

It all took place in the town of Kütahya in 2013. He decided on this operation because his father, who smoked for many years, passed away from lung cancer, according to Ary News. Yucel had been a smoker for nearly two decades, consuming two packs of cigarettes daily. He was completely dependent on his habit and was unable to quit. He therefore made the decision to try something new. He inserted his head into one.

He thought motorcycle helmets would be a great model for his design after seeing them. He then constructed the cage, complete with a lock, using 130 feet of copper wire. He created the cage, put his own head inside, and handed his wife the key, allowing him to only be released during mealtimes.
He was able to use a straw to drink water because of the tiny gaps between the copper wires, but smoking was not possible because a cigarette could not fit in the same space. However, since Yucel and his family have not received much attention since he began wearing the helmet, nobody is aware of the success of his innovation.

Following the revelation, Reddit users shared some quite interesting ideas about what they would do with the cage and if it was a wise move for the man to finally kick his habit. “You know how they advise kids not to put plastic bags over their heads?” one person asked. Big tobacco propaganda “The itch on my nose would be unbearable,” someone else joked. With the device in place, someone suggested that he keep smoking: “He can stick a straw in a cigarette buttock and smoke from the straw.” “There has to be a better way of doing this,” said one user, puzzled. “He hangs around the smoking area, asking people to breathe on him,” was the last joke that was said. The market might be losing out on this one given the wide range of products available to help individuals stop smoking, such as patches, inhalers, gum, and vapes.
