New video of the Twin Towers collapse has emerged more than 20 years after the September 11, 2001 attacks. After finding old tapes in his closet, the video’s director, Kei Sugimoto, just made it public. One Reddit user said, “It’s crazy that we’re almost 23 years out and still getting new footage.”
A unique perspective of the towers crumbling from the north is provided by Sugimoto’s video, which was taken from the roof of a building at 64 St Marks Place in New York City. One user commented that the video offers a “unique perspective not seen from the south or east” as it depicts the skyscrapers soaring with smoke before collapsing.
The video has been the subject of extensive online controversy since it was released on July 23, 2023. “I wonder how much history is being stored in people’s attics or basements waiting to be unearthed,” one user thought.
In addition to giving 9/11 a fresh visual dimension, Sugimoto’s choice to release this video enhances our collective memory of a moment that influenced the twenty-first century.
