Malia Obama, the daughter of former President Barack Obama, is accustomed to life in the spotlight. At the Sundance Film Festival, she recently made her directorial debut at the age of 25 with the short film The Heart, introducing herself as Malia Ann and removing her last name.
Her middle name is a tribute to her late grandma, and she was born on July 4, 1998. According to Malia, The Heart is a fable about a guy who is grieving the loss of his mother and her peculiar will request. She focuses on themes of forgiveness, loneliness, and loss.
Malia has previous expertise in the field; she co-wrote the episode “Girl, Bye” for Donald Glover’s Amazon Prime series Swarm while working in the writers’ room. Her coworkers say she is dedicated to her art and have acknowledged her professionalism and talent.

With her curly hair fashioned in tiny braids and little makeup, Malia looked at ease and natural for her directorial debut. She joins a number of celebrities, including Angelina Jolie and Nicolas Cage, who have decided to change their identities by removing their family names.
