Jessica Drye Turner posted a heartbreaking plea on Facebook on Friday along with a picture of her parents, sister Megan, and 7-year-old nephew Micah who were stuck on their Asheville home’s roof when Hurricane Helene’s floodwaters rushed toward them. Widespread floods had forced Megan, her kid, and her elderly parents from their house.
Jessica posted a description of the horrifying circumstance, saying, “They are watching cars and 18-wheelers floating by.” Sadly, the family of Megan and Jessica would experience a terrible loss. Among the people that drowned in the flood were Megan’s parents and her little son Micah. Later, Jessica disclosed that her sister Megan had barely made it out alive, describing how Megan heard someone telling her to stop clinging to a tree.
Megan finally gave in after initially objecting, but the strong current carried her away. Afterwards, after spending three hours trapped between two trailers, she was discovered. Megan claimed that throughout this terrifying moment, she sensed a voice leading and consoling her until help arrived.
Jessica revealed the terrible news that her parents and nephew had died as a result of her family’s home collapsing in a sorrowful post. She added, “My sisters and I are experiencing beyond words sorrow, heartbreak, and devastation.”
Jessica was thankful for the outpouring of prayers and support from people despite her enormous loss. On September 30, she shared a post that was full of faith and said, “Prayers have carried us this far, and will continue to do so.” After spending time with Jesus, nothing could convince them to return when we saw them again.
Turner’s family’s passing is regrettably not an isolated tragedy. According to the Associated Press, as of October 1, at least 130 persons had passed away in five states: Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee.
