While excavating in her backyard, Katie Santry, a woman on TikTok, made the astonishing discovery that a rug was buried 2.5 feet below the surface. As soon as the story went viral, there was conjecture that there might be human remains under the rug.
Santry revealed her results and the progress of her inquiry in a 22-part TikTok series that has received over 10 million views from her Columbus, Ohio, home.
Santry called the police after finding the rug, but they couldn’t offer any assistance without more details. Because she had previously had damage to her property, including a $1,000 tree, she was apprehensive to continue digging.
But two days later, a different team of law enforcement showed up with cadaver dogs, which alerted in the vicinity of the rug, possibly indicating the presence of human remains.
Santry took pictures of the scene and expressed surprise that it had been taped off as a possible crime scene. Even a tiny amount of blood could cause the cadaver dogs to respond, therefore the inquiry is still underway and no clear answers concerning what is in the rug have been provided.
The TikTok community has been instrumental in advocating for action. “There’s obviously a body in that rolled-up carpet,” a commentator stated. Someone else made a comment about the possible ramifications for a case involving a missing person, saying they couldn’t sleep without knowing what was under the rug.
Santry described inexplicable incidents including her workplace being inexplicably moved, a broken laptop screen, and weird happenings involving a “bloodgood” tree planted where the rug was buried, all of which led her to hypothesize about an unsettling connection to her house.
To add to the bizarre string of coincidences, she disclosed that her neighbor next door passed away on the day she moved into her home.
Santry contacted the home’s original owners, Myron Weil, 95, who said he had no memory of anything strange being buried in the yard. Though he joked that he hoped they found treasure instead, he surmised that the rug might have been mistaken for a burlap bag.
TikTok users have encouraged Santry to seek legal counsel despite police guarantees, cautioning that investigations may take unforeseen turns. Many have advised her to defend herself even though there haven’t been any formal allegations filed, in case the investigation turns up further information.
