When Emily Gold and the Los Angeles High School dance team appeared on “America’s Got Talent” in August, they mesmerized the nation.
Emily Gold, a 17-year-old dancer from Los Angeles High School who competed on America’s Got Talent, passed away.
Gold committed suicide, the San Bernardino Coroner’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday, September 13, at 11:52 p.m.
In a statement released to PEOPLE, CAHP Public Information Officer Rodrigo Jimenez said that “officers from the California Highway Patrol Rancho Cucamonga area responded to a pedestrian down in lanes.”
“A 17-year-old female who had been hit by at least one other vehicle in the carpool lane on eastbound 210 was found by the officers when they arrived,” Jimenez said.”The female was declared dead at the scene after succumbing to her injuries.”
Officer S. Gonzalez, the police investigator, is asking anyone who witnessed what happened or has more information to get in contact with him.
The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department, Los Osos High School, and representatives of America’s Got Talent have all been asked to comment.
With the Los Osos High School dance team, the teenager from Southern California astounded the nation last month on America’s Got Talent. After making it through the audition process, the group moved on to the series quarterfinals, however they were eliminated in August.
Despite their elimination, Judge Simon Cowell gave the team a standing ovation for their enthusiastic performance.
“It was simply amazing,” Cowell remarked at the time.”First and foremost, I adored this for its intensity. What I just witnessed, in my opinion, embodies all that a great school ought to stand for: fostering friendship and talent.
According to Cowell, “It made me think of the High School Musical movie and how every child should attend a school like that.”
“When I’m performing, I’m really thinking about all the corrections because we get corrections up until five minutes before we go on stage,” Gold stated in a conversation with the public on August 13. My top goal on stage is to truly simply consider all of those so that we can use them.
She said, “It’s definitely tough to balance it all, but we make it happen,” in response to the question of how she managed to perform on AGT while a high school student.
Soon after learning of Gold’s loss, her loved ones created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the dancer’s family.
