The majority of us like to believe that there is nothing we wouldn’t do to make sure our family members are happy and healthy. Although this concept is generally accurate, it can become difficult to put everything on hold in order to support a loved one in need as we become older and start our own kids.
But what if you had to quit your work, take a plane ticket across the globe, and dedicate your entire life to taking care of a relative? Filipino musician and content producer Chris Punsalan made this amazing choice without second thought.
Chris’s grandma, who is 96 years old, is in the Philippines, while his family is in Nevada. Up until his grandmother ran out of caregivers, everything was good. Chris was resolved to go above and beyond, even though his family was thinking of putting her in a care facility. He made the noble decision to return to the Philippines and uproot his entire life in order to take care of his grandma full-time.
Chris spoke warmly about his grandmother in an interview with ABS-CBN, expressing his affection and worries. “She looked after me, and I would hate to see her go to home care,” he remarked. “Most grandparents in America go to home care.” Nobody is able to look after them, therefore they go to home care. Chris’s choice was clearly motivated by a profound sense of gratitude and admiration for his grandmother’s support and affection.
Because of his career as a content creator, Chris already had a sizable online following, but he was unaware that his choice would become extremely popular. He accepted his new path and began posting videos to his YouTube channel, providing viewers with an inside look at his day-to-day activities as his grandmother’s caregiver. The difficulties and happy times that accompany taking care of an aging loved one were depicted in these videos. Chris revealed, “To occasionally watch her forget who I am and to have to tell her… It serves as a continual reminder of how fleeting and delicate life is.
Even though he has made many sacrifices and is geographically away from the rest of his family, Chris feels lucky to be able to spend so much time with his grandma during her golden years. We are all inspired by his narrative, which serves as a reminder of the value of selflessness and unconditional love.
