Pollan supported her husband and has been “there on the front lines” with him “every single day” since her husband’s Parkinson’s disease diagnosis, which came about just three years after they were married.

A teenage Michael J. Fox, who rose to popularity as the aspirational and astute Alex P. Keaton in the popular TV series Family Ties (1982–1989), was destined to become one of Hollywood’s biggest actors.

The adorable, preppy, Canadian-born actor who won a Golden Globe was the object of desire for girls everywhere.

But it was all over when he met Tracy Pollan, who starred as his girlfriend Ellen Reed in the seven-season, critically acclaimed comedy series.

In 1988, at the height of his career, Pollan, now sixty-three, wed Fox, sixty-two, as the TV personality was transforming into the movie star, Marty McFly, in the Back to the Future trilogy.

The Emmy Award-winning actor, who was 29 years old at the time, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, the same year his comedy film Doc Holiday was released.

When winning the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in November 2022, Fox talked about his traumatic experience with Parkinson’s disease.

I was informed that I had just ten years to work. That was really bad. That’s the actual event. Dealing with the situation’s uncertainty and the diagnostic’ certainty was the most difficult aspect of Fox’s diagnosis, she added. “I just knew things would worsen. While the progress was uncertain and indefinite, the diagnosis was certain. It was made plain by my wife [Pollan] that she would be staying with me throughout. Sam, my little kid, was unaware, though. He was left with no option.

The kids

Sam Michael, 34, the couple’s son, and Aquinnah Kathleen and Schuyler Frances, 29, twin daughters, and Esmé Annabelle, 22, are their shared children.

He stated of his kids, “If I’m reaching for something, they’ll just do it and carry on,” in a Good Housekeeping interview. “[They have gained] resilience, empathy, and the ability to distinguish between important and unnecessary things, such as vanity.”

Fox has a tight relationship with his grown-up children, who often make cameos on his Instagram page.

In May 2022, he posted a Mother’s Day homage to Pollan, saying, “Our children are beautiful, sensitive, intelligent, empathetic, independent, compassionate, adventurous, lovely people.” “You are to blame for that. We all adore you incredibly. Cheers to Mother’s Day!

“In health and in sickness”

The pair discussed how they maintain their love and how they support one another in an interview with People in March 2023.

Pollan stated, “I believe we actually listen to each other; we are there for each other when we need each other.” And when it’s necessary, we also give each other space. Simply attempting to be present while sensing that something is not needed right now.

Fox added, “Tracy gives our family everything that we need,” to that remark. all positive in our family and all we accomplish stems from her.

Early in November 2023, the Teen Wolf actor talked about how his devoted wife has been his biggest supporter for 35 years on CBS Mornings.

Fox remarked, “I don’t know how it is for her, but it’s been great for me.” “It goes without saying that I adore Tracy; she is a remarkable person who has experienced a lot. I understand that she is a person and that her life is distinct from mine because I have Parkinson’s disease and am not Marty McFly or Alex Keaton. That, I believe, is the reason it’s gone well.

The actress, who played Chance in the family movie Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993), talked about Pollan’s steadfast adherence to her marriage vows.

“Neither she nor I knew what to anticipate [after the diagnosis]. She had told me that, in good times and bad, in health and illness, etc.She was able to support me and help me get through it. She has done so for 35 years.

“She’s there in the front lines with me every single day,” Fox continues. She never acts as though she knows more than I do.

In an emotional interview with Today in 2020, Fox discussed his Pollan and remarked, “One of the things I’ll always love Tracy for is that at that moment [of diagnosis], she didn’t blink.”

The actor is the creator of the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which has raised about $2 billion to date to find a treatment for Parkinson’s disease, a progressive brain ailment, according to the website of the organization.

Fox’s mind is still as keen as a razor.

“My repeats will carry me through.” That gave me a tiny piece of eternal life,” the endearing figure continues.
