We could all be forgiven for forgetting that Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, two superstars in their own right, have been married for more than thirty years.
When Kyra first met Kevin, who was seven years her senior, she was only 12 years old. After seeing a film with her brother that starred Bacon, she got to meet him.
Their paths didn’t cross again until ten years later, on the set of Lemon Sky. It was disclosed by Kyra that Bacon wasn’t truly her type.
He was very clearly not my kind. Indeed, Kyra said, “I can still clearly recall thinking, Well, I guess some girls like that, as he walked away after our first date.”
However, she had a change of heart, and the two was married in 1988.
The pair exchanged vows in a secret ceremony in Connecticut, and the Manhattan bar Au Bar hosted a celebration for 300 guests. Christmas Eve 1987 saw Kevin and Kyra get engaged, and they only invited close friends and family to their reception.
Kevin Bacon’s kids
Travis Sedgwick Bacon was their first child, born not long after the wedding. 1992 saw the birth of Sosie Ruth, their other child.
Following in her parents’ footsteps, Sosie has acted as Skye Miller in the Netflix adolescent drama series 13 Reasons Why. Travis composes the soundtrack for his parents’ film “Story of a Girl” and performs solo.
The pair is celebrating their anniversary and is overjoyed to be together after 34 years of marriage. In Hollywood, the Bacon couple’s decades-long marriage is considered a miracle.
Kyra said, “I would have told them they were out of their minds if they had told me that at 22 I was going to meet the man I was going to marry and at 23 I would marry him and have a child.”
It’s obvious that Bacon still has feelings for his famous wife because he consistently remembers to commemorate their wedding anniversary. In actuality, Kevin and Kyra frequently share confessions of love on their individual Instagram pages.
“I met my wife, our kids were born, and good things were happening at the same time I was at my lowest point. And I was able to continue taking care of myself; that gave me strength all the time,” Bacon said to reporters.
Lost a lot of money
The couple did admit that it hasn’t always been smooth sailing sharing the moment their life savings were lost when in 2008 Bernie Madoff pulled off what was called the largest Ponzi scheme in history.
According to some sources, Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick lost $100 million, but Celebrity Net Worth claims they ”only” lost $30-$40 million.
But they braved the storm as they both had jobs and although lost millions they didn’t lose everything.
“It was a bad day,” Bacon continued: “But pretty quickly we were able to see all the things we had as opposed to whatever we lost, and those are the biggest cliches: children, health, love, a nice home. So we got through it together. I don’t think about Madoff, like, at all.”
Money lost a lot
The pair acknowledged that things haven’t always gone as planned, recalling the day their life savings were stolen in 2008 when Bernie Madoff executed what was dubbed the biggest Ponzi scam in history.
While Celebrity Net Worth asserts that Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick “only” lost $30–40 million, several reports suggest the couple lost $100 million.
They both had work, so they weathered the storm even though they lost millions of dollars.
“We were able to see all the things we had as opposed to what we lost pretty quickly,” Bacon said. “Those are the biggest clichés: children, health, love, and a nice home. It was a bad day.” Thus, we overcame it together. I really don’t give Madoff any thought.
initial cousins
Kyra learned that she and Bacon are ninth cousins, once removed, during an appearance on the American TV program “Finding Your Roots.”
Kevin wasn’t overjoyed to learn via a DNA test that the actor and actress were distant cousins, which might give you a strange feeling.
Although Kyra stated that “she knew it,” she found it “a little unsettling.” She clarified, though, that as long as they weren’t first cousins, she was fine with the revelation.
Kevin’s 22nd great grandpa was King Edward I, who battled William Wallace, according to PBS’s investigation into his family history. Kevin made light of the fact that he and his wife were first cousins and said that his ancestry did not receive enough attention.
“It seemed like a joke about me, you know,” he remarked.
Nevertheless, despite the startling revelation, Kevin and Kyra undoubtedly continued their relationship, and it has only become better with time.
In quarantine, love
They just got the opportunity to spend even more time together while their LA house was under quarantine.
Kyra said, “Even though I really have no idea if I’m any good at it at all, I’m writing a little bit.”
Really, all that has to be done is find something to do. While my spouse and I don’t read Shakespeare together all the time, we do watch a lot of TV together and read a lot of books. We keep reading things. I carry on reading. Yes, I definitely strive to incorporate my work into my daily life.
Kyra also acknowledges that her spouse always makes her feel special, wherever they are.
“I’m not sure how he does it, but he always makes me feel like the only girl in the room, or the most beautiful woman,” Kyra remarks.
She also gives thanks to their amazing chemistry in bed.
“Having sex is very vital. That’s the desire, Sedgwick said in a 2012 interview with Redbook.
In an interview that was published in Entertainment Weekly in 2015, Bacon offered the following counsel on how to stay married: “Whatever you do, avoid taking advice on how to stay married from celebrities.”
In 2012, Sedgwick shared with Good Housekeeping her favorite things about her devoted husband.
“He is incredibly noble. He is really true to ethics. He doesn’t lie or cheat, and I think that’s sexy! He has high moral standards, she said. “I am always amazed at Kevin’s composure and lack of ‘crazy.'”
