She replaced her love of dancing at the moment with modeling. After Cates’ appearances in numerous teen-focused periodicals, she rose to fame. She was among the others who appeared four times on the cover of Seventeen magazine. But eventually, she decided she had had enough and started making movies.
It was simply the same thing, repeated repeatedly. With regard to her modeling career, she admitted, “After a while, I did it just for the money.”
Cates trained with Robert Ravan, the creator of The Actors’ Circle in New York, after meeting her agent one evening at a party at the renowned Studio 54 in New York.
“I knew from away that I didn’t want to attend college. And that if I could obtain a few DVDs or whatever, that would be a terrific way for me to graduate from college. Sincerely. She said to The Daily Item in 1985, “It’s true.
After making her acting debut in the 1982 picture Paradise as Sarah, Cates went on to star in Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Experienced.
“A girl must be willing to undress if she wants a career in this industry. Regarding the famous scene, she remarked, “If you’ve got a good body, then why not show it?”
At the time of its release, Fast Times at Ridgemont High included a number of well-known actors in development, including Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Eric Stoltz, and Forest Whitaker.
We were all so young when we made it, so it was kind of funny. After that, it became a huge hit, to the point where you could go to the theater and hear people reciting the lines, and it was clear that people had watched the film multiple times, Jennifer Jason Leigh told The Daily News.
Although Cates’ career flourished, she ultimately made the decision to give up acting.
